AFA Round 1 Longwood, Florida at Candyland Park
AFA is a name that stands out so vividly. So organized and so big. So many AFA events, locations, and tons of entries. Its come a long way since then with changes in all aspects. Being on home turf we assembled a staff to cover all bases with each person having specific duties. Everyone excelled. The big bummer was the rain scare which turned out to be nothing and we only started an hour late. This could have been a factor in making a bigger turn out. Very excited a few people flew in, drove a LONG way, and otherwise came out of the woodwork to see a current and LIVE flatland competition. I want to help everyone who helped out making this event go off and a bonus was raising some money for the Candyland Project which is still going on. “I love BMX. The Candyland stop in Longwood was the first stop in the AFA series. After seeing the flyer at MrBs bikes and boards. I talk to Chad about it. I have never seen a flatland contest live. So I volunteered to Chad if I could help out with anything. He said sure show up at 8 am and you can help move some bleachers around and hang banners so I did. The energy at this place was electrifying! After hearing that only one person signed up for beginners class . I felt obliged to not let this guy go it alone. So I entered to pump him up . You need to keep in mind I am not a flatland rider , I got maybe two tricks on a good day. The opportunity was there to pump up the crowd and the riders so that’s exactly what I wanted to do. I LOVE BMX!”
